Our First Suffolk County Community College Scholarship Winner: Virginia Libretti

Earlier this year, we launched the Local 338 scholarship at Suffolk Community College and we are pleased to announce we have our first winner! Virginia Libretti is a Local 338 member who has worked at the ShopRite in Selden for the past two years. Virginia is enrolled in the Dietetic Technology program at Suffolk County Community College and she plans on using her knowledge of nutritional science to help others achieve a more healthy, productive lifestyle. After graduating from SCCC, Virginia plans on attending Queens College to further her education.

Virginia says being a member of Local 338 has helped tremendously to ensure she can work flexible hours while also being a student. “Every Local 338 member attending SCCC should apply for the scholarship. It’s quick and doesn’t hurt to apply. Winning the scholarship can be incredibly helpful to assist with paying for tuition.” Congratulations to Virginia and best of luck in all your future endeavors! Your union will always have your back.

The Suffolk County Community College scholarship is open to all Local 338 members and their dependents who are enrolled at the college. One SCCC scholarship is still available this academic year for a student planning to attend SCCC for the first time and the recipient can receive up to $2,000 towards tuition costs. For more information and to apply, please visit: local338.org/scholarships. The deadline to apply is April 24, 2020.
