Buying a Home


Local 338 members can attend an event for homeownership down payment assistance! The assistance program can provide homebuyers with $20,000 in grants for members who meet the requirements and are looking to buy a home in Brooklyn, the Bronx or Queens.

This free event will take place at the Brooklyn Expo Center where you can be pre-screened to see if you are eligible.


Date: Friday and Saturday, November 3 - 4, 2017

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The use of public transportation is encouraged. Limited free parking is available at the Expo Center's lot. Parking at any other location cannot be reimbursed.

Average overall time spent at the event is 2-3 hours, but times may vary.

  • Meet with local nonprofit counselors — See if you're eligible for a $20,000 grant.
  • Find out if you’re ready to buy a home — Talk one-on-one with a Wells Fargo Home Mortgage consultant about mortgage options and see if you qualify for a mortgage preapproval.
  • Attend a homeownership seminar to learn (approx. 45 min)
    - And evaluate if you're ready to buy.
    - Steps of the homebuying process.
    - The ins and outs of a mortgage.
  • Sessions will be available at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., and a Spanish session will be at 1:30 p.m.
  • Attend a credit seminar to learn (approx. 45 min)
    - What’s in a credit score and how is it calculated?
    - How does my credit score impact buying a home?
  • Sessions will be available at be at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., and a Spanish session will be at 2:30 p.m.
  • Free activities for kids.

Walk in with a possibility — and out with a plan

Learn the steps required for homeownership and what you can do next. Whether it’s to look for a home, save for your down payment, or enroll in homebuyer education, you’ll have a plan you can immediately put into action.

Please note that walk-ins are welcome; however, the sessions are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Combined income for all borrowers on the loan cannot exceed the program income limits, adjusted for household size.
The first mortgage can be financed by any NeighborhoodLIFT program-approved lender.
Down payment assistance grants cannot be used to purchase bank-owned properties managed by Wells Fargo Premier Asset Services.
