Device Security

It's really important to keep your devices like phones, tablets, and computers safe. If someone bad gets into your device, they can easily steal your personal stuff, like your private stuff you don't want anyone seeing or your bank information.

How to Keep Your Devices Safe:

  1. Use Strong Passwords:

    • Make them hard to guess by using easy to remember phrases but in a combination of letters, numbers, and special symbols like "!" or "$".
    • Don’t use the same password for everything. Each account should have its own password to avoid all your accounts and devices getting hacked.
    • You can use a password manager to remember all your passwords since having multiple different ones may be difficult to manage.
  2. Use Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

  3. Keep Software Up to Date

  4. Install Antivirus Software

  5. Be Careful with Public Wi-Fi:

    • Don’t do important things like online shopping on public Wi-Fi. It’s not always safe.
    • Use a VPN to protect your data if you must use public Wi-Fi.
  6. Back Up Your Data

  7. Watch Out for Scams:

    • Don’t click on links in emails or messages unless you’re sure they’re safe.
    • Always double-check if something seems suspicious.
  8. Set Up Device Tracking

Phones and Tablets:

    • Use a strong screen lock PIN or fingerprint.
    • Be careful about what permissions you give apps.
    • Use messaging apps that protect your messages.

Laptops and Computers:

    • Turn on your firewall to block unwanted people.
    • Use a strong screen lock PIN or fingerprint.
    • Use a regular user account for everyday stuff, and only use the admin account when you need to make big changes.

Smart Home Devices:

    • Keep the software updated.
    • Make sure they’re connected to a secure network.

Remember, keeping your devices safe protects not just you but also everyone you talk to. It's like making sure all the doors and windows in your house are locked to keep out burglars.
